Who is Inês, indeed?

I am a 21-year-old Portuguese girl, living near Lisbon. I knit, I read, I whinge about being unemployed. I have an undergraduate degree in English and German literature and culture, and am currently doing a Masters in Publishing. Brilliant career prospects right there.

I started knitting when I was in secondary school so I had something to do while listening to podcasts. My mother very kindly taught me how to knit and purl, and I figured the rest on my own from then on. My first project was completed in late 2014 — a scarf for my boyfriend. Shortly thereafter, I found out that Ravelry was a thing, knit my first pair of socks (again for the boyfriend, ever the guinea pig) and proceeded to spending too much money on patterns and yarn.

Lately I’ve been very interested in living a sustainable and minimalist life. I have made a deal with myself to eat local and shop local. I always prefer buying from Portuguese makers and from brick-and-mortar stores — be it for clothes, yarn or anything else — and make an effort to do so whenever possible. I want to only acquire things that make me happy, that are sustainable, and that won’t disintegrate after six months. I also want to create my own handmade wardrobe — my project for the summer of 2015 is learning how to sew!

I’ve started this blog as a way to connect to other knitters/fiber folk/cool people in general, and be an active part of this awesome and kind community. Besides knitting, I love to read, practice yoga, running and watching movies and countless TV shows.
